Congratulations, America. You played yourself.

I’m going to keep this short, but just know this.

A fascist authoritarian just took office, and the effects are already being felt. Lies are being presented as “alternative facts”, all to push the right-wing agenda. There are efforts to normalize racism as the “alt-right”. Marches took place all over the world to protest this fascist authoritarian the day after he took office, all of which will be pointless without strategic plans to bring about the change we seek.

Now we’re stuck with these Klansmen for four years. Even if said fascist authoritarian gets removed (either by impeachment or the 25th amendment), we’re still stuck with his VP and the House Speaker, both of whom are just as verifiably nuts but are experienced politicians. It’s only a few days into the dark ages, so buckle up. It’s going to be a bumpy ride.

New Klux Klan

It is painfully apparent that there is a subculture of law enforcement whose actions and character resemble the 21st Century Edition of the Klu Klux Klan. Thanks to social media, the world is becoming aware of cases where police officers are assaulting and arresting black and brown individuals for little other reason than asserting their power, “failure to comply” or because “they fit the description”. Meanwhile, there are citizens that support this bigotry through ignorance, bitterness, and/or blatant hatred. New Klux Klan

You Can’t Judge A Book By Its Color

Social justice activist Shaun King spent the greater part of this week being vilified by conservative media and their minions based on haphazard evidence that suggested he is a white man pretending to be African-American. However, anyone with common sense could read the context clues of his writings and see that (1) his biological father is black, (2) the circumstances are complicated, (3) he didn’t want to talk it out of respect for his mother, and (4) it is none of our business. Of course, these outlets were relentless, pulling out “family members” and birth certificates to support their attacks.

Eventually King was pushed into posting this piece explaining his lineage, why he didn’t want to talk about it, and the true motivations behind the “investigation” against him. A part of me wanted him to remain silent, throwing the middle finger to their desperate attempts to disqualify his life’s work. However, another part of me is glad he eloquently dismantled each one of their thinly-veiled arguments. You Can’t Judge A Book By Its Color

The Misconceptions of Privilege

One of the most misunderstood topics on planet earth is the concept of privilege. People who don’t fall into the 1% seem to glance over the various privileges that we are afforded based on factors such as gender, sexual orientation, level of education, and of course, race.

Some refuse to admit their existence based on our personal circumstances, but that doesn’t disqualify their validity. The Misconceptions of Privilege

Here’s The Transcript of Sandra Bland’s Arrest

Cop:
Ok, Ma’am. You ok?

Sandra Bland:
I’m waitin’ on you. This is your job. I’m waitin’ on you…

Cop:
You seem very irritated.

SB:
I am. I really am because I feel like what I’m getting a ticket for, I was getting out of your way. You were speeding up, tailing me, so I move over, and you stop me. So, yeah, I am a little irritated, but that doesn’t stop you from giving me a ticket.

Cop:
Are you done? Here’s The Transcript of Sandra Bland’s Arrest
